  1. 1Soak beans in cold water 6-8 hours or overnight, then drain and rinse.
  2. 2In large soup pot over medium-high heat sauté onion and garlic in olive oil. Add cubed steak and brown.
  3. 3Add spices and tomato paste and mix well. Add broth and canned tomatoes, and bring to a boil.
  4. 4Turn heat to low and simmer loosely covered for 4 hours stirring occasionally until thickened and beans are tender.
  5. 5Add salt and pepper to taste.
