Spicy Chickpea Chole
A spicy masala chickpea curry that fits into the GI diet.

Ingredients
- 1 tsp crumbled bay leavesNutrition
- 3 g clovesNutrition
- 1/2 tbsp cumin seedsNutrition
- 1/2 tbsp black pepperNutrition
- 1 tsp turmericNutrition
- 1 tbsp basilNutrition
- 1 dash saltNutrition
- 2 tsps olive oilNutrition
- 1/2 lemon yields lemon juiceNutrition
- 1 tsp garlicNutrition
- 1/2 cup chopped onionNutrition
- 1 cup chopped or sliced tomatoNutrition
- 3 green chilliNutrition
- 1 cup chickpeasNutrition
Directions
- 1If using dried chickpeas, clean and soak overnight in warm water. Next morning rinse and add boiling water to saucepan and add chickpeas. Boil for an hour until finger soft, drain and leave aside.
- 2In another saucepan heat oil, add seed spices and allow to sizzle.
- 3Add onion and sauté lightly, add remaining spices, tomato and peppers and cook for 5-6 minutes.
- 4Add chickpeas, stir and simmer for 6-8 minutes.
- 5Add garnish (fresh cilantro or coriander) and serve warm with whole wheat chapatti's or brown basmati rice.
