Bacon & Bean Soup

Bacon and ham, with tomato, peppers, onions and great northern beans make for a terrific soup.

  1. 1In large kettle cook bacon until crisp. Remove and drain. reserve 2 tablespoons of bacon grease.
  2. 2Cook ham, onion and green peppers in bacon grease until tender.
  3. 3Add tomatoes, water, brown sugar, vinegar, and dash of salt.
  4. 4Bring to boil. Reduce heat, add bacon and simmer covered 10 minutes.
  5. 5Reserve 2 cups beans and mash others.
  6. 6Add all beans to soup and heat well.
